About

The blog for serious aquarium keepers

MudCap AquaJournal's blog publishes practical, science-backed writing about freshwater and marine aquarium keeping. We cover water chemistry, aquascaping, fish profiles, reef keeping, and guides for hobbyists at every level.

Why we write

Most aquarium content online is either too shallow to be useful or too technical to be accessible. We aim for the middle ground: articles that respect the reader's intelligence and give them information they can actually use.

This blog is the content companion to the MudCap AquaJournal app — a tool for logging water parameters, tracking livestock, and getting AI-powered insights for your tanks. The blog provides the context and depth that a logging app can't: the why behind the numbers, the science behind the maintenance routines, the craft behind the aquascapes.

New articles are published every other Monday. Categories rotate and expand as the hobby evolves.

"The nitrogen cycle doesn't care how expensive your equipment is. Understanding the biology is what separates a thriving tank from a struggling one."
